Importing data files

Use this procedure to import data files. You must have the Import data to applications user permission to import data from a local file into the applications.

1. Choose Data > Import to open the Import dialog box.
2. Select the type of data that you are importing from the Data Type drop-down menu.
3. Enter a description of the file in the Description text box.
   This will help you identify the type of data you are importing. Use descriptions that tell you what category you are importing, or the types of edits you made, for example. The description will be the best way for you to find your file in the Import Status dialog box.
4. Enter the file name in the Upload File section.
   Make sure your file name contains 8 characters or less. The import will fail if it contains more characters.
5. Click Import.
6. When the import data process completes, the Import Status dialog box opens with your import listed.
