Product groups
Product groups are built within one or more categories and can include any combination of products.
Most often, product groups are made up of products within a brand or "best-selling" products, sometimes called image items. A product group can even include only one product (to apply a rule to a single product). Product groups that you create are shared across all DemandTec by Acoustic applications.
Product groups can be used to determine prices for a smaller number of products in a category (limiting the time consuming and sometimes costly process of implementing price changes for an entire category), or if you only are able to send a certain number of price changes to stores each week. You can optimize or rules-price multiple scenarios with the same product groups. In Promotion Planning & Execution, when you create a new promotion, you can filter products by product group.
Two types of product groups can be created and used in the Price and Promotion solutions: dynamic and static. Static product groups contain manually-added products. Dynamic product groups automatically add products based on filter criteria that you set. Dynamic product groups can save you time from manually adding new products to a product group. For example, you can generate products for the product group based on revenue, volume, brand name, size, or price amounts. A single product can belong to multiple static and dynamic product groups.
A third type of product group, promoted product group or PPG, can only be used in Promotion Planning & Execution and Customer Trade Planning. Promoted product groups are static groups, but can contain products from multiple categories and cannot contain products that belong to any other promoted product group. Additional functionality is available around promoted product groups for product selection during promotion creation and to warn users if groups are modified after being selected for a promotion.
