Creating promoted product groups

Use this procedure to create a promoted product group (PPG). In order to view, create, edit or delete promoted product groups, you must have the Manage Promoted Product Groups permission enabled.

About this task

If your company needs to begin using promoted product groups, DemandTec by Acoustic can perform an initial, one-time import of your promoted product groups. Contact DemandTec by Acoustic Customer Support for additional information. After the initial import, you should create any new promoted product groups.

Promoted product groups can only be used in Promotion Planning & Execution and Customer Trade Planning.

Procedure

  1. Choose Data > Product Groups.
    The Product Groups page shows (for the specified category) any product groups, number of members in each group, last date updated, and the user who made the update. The Type field will identify static, dynamic, and promoted product groups.
  2. Click New Product Group.
    The New Product Group page opens.
  3. Enter a name for the group in the Name field.
    Use a unique name that is easily identifiable.
  4. For the product group type, select Maintain static promoted product group.
    You will be selecting the products for a static promoted product group.
  5. Choose one or more product categories from the Category list. To select categories sequentially, hold down the Shift key. To select categories non-sequentially, hold down the Ctrl key.
  6. If needed, enter a unique Code to identify the PPG.
    Your company may be configured to automatically generate PPG codes. If your company uses this configuration option, DemandTec by Acoustic generates a numeric code using your company's parameters. Auto-generated codes are not editable while this option is enabled
  7. Click Select Products to navigate to the Product Group Summary page.
    You can click Add Next Product Group at the bottom of the New Product Group page to define new product groups, and add the products to this group later.
  8. To add individual products, choose the All Products - Detailed report. To add products by logistical unit (if your company uses this functionality), choose the Logistical Units report.
  9. Select a product category from the Category drop-down list.
    The reports show all active products within the category that are available to choose from. You can add products from multiple categories, but you must add products from one category at a time
  10. Set the Include checkbox next to each product or logistical unit that you want in your group. Click the checkbox again to deselect.

    Each product and logistical unit can only belong to a single promoted product group. If an item belongs to another promoted product group, the name of the group will display in the Current PPG field. If you select an item that belongs to another promoted product group, it will be removed from that group and added to your new promoted product group.

    When selecting/deselecting individual products (from the All Products report), all logistical units for those products will be selected/deselected. When selecting products by logistical unit (from the Logistical Units report and if your company uses this functionality), all individual products for those logistical units will be selected. However, when deselecting logistical units, linked products will not be deselected.

  11. Click Apply to add the products to your promoted product group.
  12. Click Save when you are done to add the products and return to the Product Groups page.
