User sentiment

With information about user sentiment, key stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle can address the increasingly difficult challenge of monitoring, measuring, and improving app quality.

With this tool, app providers can complete the following tasks:

User sentiment crawls only ratings that are associated with review text from the top app stores and then provides a cumulative data-driven mobile app score. This score synthesizes app quality, user experience, and the overall amount of positive and negative feedback that users give an app. It also grades each app for 10 attributes. With this grade, companies can measure how their app rates from version to version on specific key drivers of overall user experience.

By going far beyond simple download counts or star-ratings, user sentiment provides information that otherwise cannot be obtained. Companies can more accurately measure their mobile app efforts. Until the user sentiment function became available, companies knew how many stars an app had in the respective app stores. With user sentiment, companies can see results of deep data analysis and make informed decisions about where to best direct resources. Thus, apps function as intended and provide the best customer experience possible.

Companies can use user sentiment to look shallow and wide to compare how their app rates among all apps in their market. Or companies can look long and deep to see how an app rates in a series of deep, data-driven attributes over time and versions.

Country support in app stores

MobileFirst Quality Assurance supports the following countries and organizes apps by country code:
Country Country code
United States us
Great Britain gb
Canada ca
Australia au
France fr
Italy it
Spain es
Germany de
Brazil br
Argentina ar
Mexico mx
India in

MobileFirst Quality Assurance collates review data by extracting data from public review feeds within the Apple iTunes and Google Play App stores. The review data is organized differently because both stores display the review data differently. Apple iTunes App store reviews are organized by country code, which means that you can view all of the reviews for a selected app for the specified country. By contrast, Google Play App store reviews are organized similar to how Google Play displays review data to users.

Reviews are organized by using a combination of the reviewer's physical location and the language code, not by how the app developer ships their app to different countries. The language code is known as the locale code, which is a combination of the language and the location of the review, such as fr, en, en_GB, or fr_CA. If no locale is available, only the location is used; a different set of reviews is displayed to each user for a selected app. If an app is made available within a specific country (such as the United States) and the Google Play store locale code is set to en_GB, the review stream for that app is also available in Great Britain.

The difference in how the apps are organized by the Google Play store is the reason that there is no Play Store equivalent for Argentina, Australia, or Mexico. They are based on language, rather than country.

MobileFirst Quality Assurance Country code Google Play locale code Description
ar es There is no locale code for Argentina reviews. To view review data correctly for app quality, search for your app within the es store.
au en or en_GB There is no locale code for Australian reviews. To view review data correctly for app quality, you might need to search for your app within the us or gb stores.
ca fr_CA The fr_CA locale code represents French Canadian reviews and maps to Canada. For a complete picture of app quality and total set of reviews, you might need to configure user sentiment for your app within the ca and us country codes.
in hi or en The in code maps to the hi locale for India. For a more complete picture of app quality and more reviews, you might need to configure user sentiment for your app within the in and us country codes.
mx es There is no locale code for Mexico reviews. To view review data correctly for app quality, search for your app within the es stores.
