Failsafe mode

Failsafe mode activates after errors and provides a subset of diagnostic commands.

The IBM® MQ Appliance activates limited forms of failsafe mode after the firmware fails to start a number of times or when an intrusion is detected.

If the appliance detects an intrusion, the interface displays a warning for new user sessions and the appliance restarts in failsafe mode. In this form of failsafe mode, access is limited to the serial console with a limited set of commands and no debugging capabilities. You can manage and clear intrusion detection from the console using the available commands.

When the firmware starts but the number of failed attempts at initialization is exceeded, the firmware enters a more functional form of failsafe mode. During initial startup in this form of failsafe mode, a subset of configuration commands is available to begin supported interfaces. This failsafe mode enables an operator to debug an erroneous configuration. This mode is intended primarily for IBM Support to assist customers to correct configuration problems. A full set of commands is available when the appliance initializes successfully.

A warning is displayed when failsafe mode is active in the GUI and CLI. If you see this warning, contact IBM Support.
