IBM MQ Console: Adding a queue manager to the high availability configuration

You can add an existing queue manager to a high availability configuration by using the IBM® MQ Console.

Before you begin

You must first set up the high availability group, see IBM MQ Console: Creating a high availability group.

About this task

Each HA queue manager that you create uses a unique port on the HA replication interface. The first HA queue manager created uses port 7789, the second 7790, and so on.

Procedure

  1. Open the IBM MQ Console on the appliance on which the queue manager is currently running.
  2. Go to the Manage view and click the High availability tab.
  3. Locate the queue manager in the list and select Configure HA from the menu Shows the menu icon.
  4. Click the Edit button shows the edit icon.
  5. Turn the High availability option to On, and optionally make the following settings:
    • Specify that the current appliance is the preferred location for the queue manager to run, or select No preference (if you want the other appliance to be the preferred location, you must set that on the other appliance).
    • If required, specify a floating IP address that can be used to access the queue manager regardless of which appliance it is actually running on.
  6. Click Save to add the queue manager to the high availability configuration.

Results

The queue manager is restarted and is replicated to the secondary appliance, where it is shown in the High availability tab with the status Running elsewhere.

What to do next

You can view the configuration, set the preferred location, and specify a floating IP address from the menu of the queue manager (the running or the backup instance) in the High availability tab.
