Transferring from your first HA appliance

Follow this procedure to transfer queue managers from your first high availability appliance to the other appliance in the pair.

About this task

This procedure uses the following terminology:
  • Appliance HA1 - the HA appliance named HA1. This is the first appliance that you replace. For the purposes of the description it is assumed that this is the preferred appliance for all your queue managers.
  • Appliance HA2 - the second appliance in your HA pair. This is the second appliance that you upgrade.

The first part of the operation is to run the queue managers on appliance HA2 and shut down appliance HA1. Prepare to replace appliance HA1 by completing the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Back up the appliance configuration, see Secure backup.
  2. Take a note of the Ethernet settings (this information is contained in the configuration backup file).
  3. Use the dsphalink command to check whether the configuration is using the default eth21 for the replication. Make a note if a custom link is used.
  4. Take a note of the appliance name (this information is contained in the configuration backup file).
  5. Optionally, create a test HA queue manager that can be used for initial testing after the replacement appliance is set up in the HA group.
  6. Shut down the appliance (failing over queue managers to the other appliance in the HA group, HA2). Disconnect all the cables.
  7. On the appliance HA2, use the sethapreferred command to make this the preferred appliance of all the queue managers.
