Preparing the appliance

Complete these steps to prepare a new appliance for the transfer of queue managers from an old appliance using DR replication.

About this task

To prepare the new appliance, power up the appliance and configure the Ethernet ports as they are configured on the original appliance.

Note: This procedure uses eth20 as the replication interface. You can also use a custom interface for replication. For more information, see Configuring custom DR replication interfaces.

Procedure

  1. Configure your new appliance. See Installing the M2004 appliance and Configuring the appliance. You can use the secure backup facility to transfer your configuration from your original appliance, see Secure backup.
  2. If you are upgrading a HA configuration, create an HA group on your new appliances. See Configuring the hardware for high availability and Configuring the high availability group.
  3. Complete the following steps on both the original and new appliances to configure the appliances for disaster recovery. For more information, see Configuring the hardware for disaster recovery.
    1. Connect an Ethernet cable between port eth20 of the appliance and a 10 Gb network.
    2. Ensure that the Ethernet port has an IP address configured. If the port was not configured when you initialized the appliance, then configure it by using the procedure described in Ethernet interfaces. You can use the IBM MQ Appliance web UI or the command line to configure the interface.
    3. Ensure that the eth20 port connects with the eth20 port on the other appliance. You can do this either by ensuring that the IP address of each eth20 port belongs to the same, dedicated subnet, or by defining a static IP route on each appliance between the two eth20 ports (see ip-route).
    4. Ensure that the appliance has a system name. If the name was not assigned when you initialized the appliance, then set the name by using the procedure that is described in Configuring the appliance name. You can use the IBM MQ Appliance web UI or the command line to assign appliance names.
