Replacing a fan module
How to replace a fan module for the M2004 appliance.
Before you begin
You must have part 03KE604 available.
About this task
The fan modules are hot-swap modules. When one or more fan modules are not working, replace the fan as soon as possible to avoid overheating. The remaining fans might not be able to maintain the appropriate environmental temperature.

Hazardous voltage, current, or energy levels are present inside any
component that has this label attached. Do not open any cover or barrier that contains this label.

DANGER
Rack-mounted devices are not to be used as shelves or work spaces. Do
not place objects on top of rack-mounted devices. In addition, do not lean on rack-mounted devices
and do not use them to stabilize your body position (for example, when working from a ladder).
Stability hazard:
- The rack may tip over causing serious personal injury.
- Before extending the rack to the installation position, read the installation instructions.
- Do not put any load on the slide-rail mounted equipment mounted in the installation position.
- Do not leave the slide-rail mounted equipment in the installation position.
DANGER
Multiple power cords. The product might be equipped with multiple AC
power cords or multiple DC power cables. To remove all hazardous voltages, disconnect all power
cords and power cables. (L003)
Procedure
What to do next
Confirm that the new module is working by verifying that the following are true.
- The fan module LED is not illuminated.
- The fault LED is not illuminated.
After you verify that the replacement module is working, return the failed part to IBM®.
