IBM MQ Console: Creating a high availability queue manager

You can create a queue manager and add it the high availability configuration by using the IBM® MQ Console.

Before you begin

You must first set up the high availability group, see IBM MQ Console: Creating a high availability group.

About this task

You create a queue manager and specify that it is part of an HA group. Each HA queue manager that you create uses a unique port on the HA replication interface. The first HA queue manager created uses port 7789, the second 7790, and so on.

Procedure

  1. In the Manage view, click the create button shows the create button.
  2. Specify the basic properties of the queue manager and click Next.
  3. Turn the High availability control to On.
  4. Enable HA encrypted replication to optionally secure the replication link with TLS. (You must first complete the certificate set up and start the tlsh daemon using the command line interface, see Secure replication for a high availability queue manager.)
  5. If required, specify a floating IP address that can be used to access the queue manager regardless of which appliance it is actually running on.

Results

The queue manager is created and started. The queue manager is replicated to the secondary appliance, where it is shown in the High availability tab with the status Running elsewhere.

What to do next

You can view the configuration, set the preferred location, and specify a floating IP address from the menu of the queue manager (the running or the backup instance) in the High availability tab. You can also view the HA status of the queue manager, including any failed resource action that has occurred (see Failed resource actions).
