Are Liberty profile servers the same as managed Liberty servers?

Liberty profile servers are not the same as managed Liberty servers.

Liberty profile servers are a type of assisted lifecycle middleware server. Assisted lifecycle servers are managed differently than application servers and are deprecated in WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment 9.0.

The managed Liberty server that is introduced by MoRE is a type of application server that is fully managed the same way as WebSphere Application Server traditional servers.
