Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) Data widget
Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF Data) is used in the calculation of optimal ROP and ROQ levels for slow and non-moving high-value items.
The MTBF Data widget displays the item's MTBF_VAL.
The MTBF Value is the projected useful lifespan of the item, for example, after issue and installation, and how long the item may be used until it fails.
- Click the MTBF Data widget to open the MTBF Data window.
MTBF Data Window
The MTBF Data window enables the user to set some of the variables and the priority of sources that are used in the MTBF calculation. The first adjustable parameter is the Auto/Override radio button, which determines how the MTBF is calculated.
- If you select Auto, IBM® Maximo Inventory Optimization uses the default configuration to calculate the MTBF Value.
- If you select Override then the MTBF Sources are available for editing.
Selecting this option allows you to prioritize the data sources used in the calculation of the MTBF as required.
MTBF Sources
- The MTBF Sources section displays the data sources in tabular form.
- The sources are listed in descending order of priority, for example, the highest priority first.
- The Warranty Period of Item field and its associated unit-of-measure (UOM) field enables the user to enter a warranty period.
- The Warranty Failure Probability field enables the user to enter the probability of failure within warranty.
- Both the Warranty Period and Warranty Failure Probability are used to calculate the Warranty MTBF (this is included in the list of MTBF sources).
MTBF Parameters
The MTB parameters are listed and described as follows:
Selected MTBF Code
This refers to the highest-priority MTBF source that is properly populated. If desired, the user may change this by re-prioritising the list of MTBF Sources.
MTBF Value
This is the calculated MTBF based on the MTBF source in use and, as such, is read-only.
Install Base
The Equipment Installed Base field represents the number of equipment items on which the item is used.
Utilization
This is the fraction of time, from installation to failure, that the item is operational. This value may be edited by the user.
Desired Service Level
This is the desired service level that the stock levels should support. This value may be edited by the user.
Install and Issue Dates
Clicking this button opens the Install and Issue Dates window.
Install and Issue Dates
This window displays the equipment-install dates and item-issue dates of the item in a grid view. Each parent-equipment the item has been installed on or issued for is listed, including the age of the installed/issued item.
This provides a reference point to determine the anticipated remaining lifespan of items in use.
