Data sources

A data source is the collection of related data that can be ingested for analysis. The data source includes, for example, the data source name, the log type, the origin of the log, and an annotation function. It enables the content to be more easily searched, filtered, and used to create visualizations in dashboards.

Data source types

There are two types of data source.
Snapshot
You can extract and manage data in Tableau reporting tables.
  • Snapshot data sources usually have the best report performance.
  • Snapshot data sources show data that is only up to date as of the last ETL refresh date.
Live
You can take data directly from Maximo Inventory Optimization tables.
  • Live data sources are expected to perform more slowly than snapshot data sources, but are more useful for discovery because they contain more fields.
  • Live data sources show current data as it appears in Maximo Inventory Optimization.
