  1. Planning - Identify expected waste generation in job plans, including waste type, estimated amounts, and associated assets or locations.
  2. Generation - Create waste management records when waste is generated, either from work order execution or as stand-alone records.
  3. Storage - Track the waste storage locations, amounts, and storage limits to help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  4. Inspection - Conduct periodic inspections of stored waste to verify proper handling and storage conditions.
  5. Disposal planning - Define disposal methods, responsible parties, and target disposal dates.
  6. Disposal - Start disposal activities and update waste records to reflect disposal completion.
  7. Closure - Close waste records after successful disposal and documentation.

Integration with work management

Waste management integrates with work management processes:

  • Job plans can include planned waste generation for recurring maintenance activities
  • Work orders inherit planned waste from associated job plans
  • Actual waste that is generated during work execution is recorded in work order actuals
  • Waste management records are created from work order actuals for tracking and disposal

Compliance tracking

The waste management process helps ensure regulatory compliance through:

  • Association of applicable regulations with waste records
  • Tracking of required certifications for storage, handling, and disposal

Storage monitoring

Storage limits are enforced to prevent exceeding regulatory thresholds:

  • The View Storage by Location action displays total stored amounts by waste type for a selected location
  • Only nonhistory records (not completed or canceled) are included in storage calculations
