Managing locks
You can use the Lock Management application along with the Permit to Work application or the Isolation Management application to manage the process of locking and isolating assets or locations. You can also assign locks and lock states directly to a location by using the Characteristics tab on the Locations application. Use the Edit Lock State action to update the Lock State field in the Locations application.
About this task
The isolation process for a welding task might require that the location is locked and that all valves inside the room are secured in a closed position.
Procedure
- In the Permit to Work application, or in the Isolation Management application, create a record, or open an existing record.
- On the Isolations tab, specify a lock box. For example, specify a lock box LB01.
- Specify the key to lock box LB01. For example, specify the key KEY01 to lock box.
- In the Lock Out / Tag Out Operations section, add rows for each asset or location that must be locked or tagged before work can be done.
- Assign locks to each asset or location. The permit or isolation certificate must be approved before you can add a lock. You can assign up to two locks to each asset or location.
- When you lock the assets and locations, select the Locked checkbox
for each asset or location that you locked. The In Use checkbox is automatically selected on the corresponding lock management records.
- When you place the keys in lock box LB01, lock it with KEY01, select the Lock
Box in Use checkbox, and save the record. Lock box LB01 contains the keys that are essential to all of the locks that are referenced in the Lock Out / Tag Out Operations table. The In Use checkbox is automatically selected on the LB01 lock management record.
- When the work is complete, retrieve the keys from lock box LB01, unlock all of the locks,
and clear the Locked checkbox for each lock out / tag out operation
row. The In Use checkbox is automatically cleared on the corresponding lock management records.
