Managing building information model data
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process that manages the design and build phases
of building construction projects. This process is used as part of the hand-over of the construction
building from the contractors to the owners. It is during this process that you can import the data
into Maximo®
Asset Management so that you can manage
your facility and view the data in 3D.
Building information modeling (BIM) in Maximo Asset Management
Building information modeling (BIM) is a 3D digital representation of a building and a set of process that use that representation for construction projects, such as buildings, roads, and bridges. This standard is used during the design and builds phases of construction and is also adopted for building operations.
Classifications for building information models
Classifications provide useful information about the role and function of an item for building information models. Before you import Construction-Operations Building information exchange (COBie) data, you can specify a classification type, such as OmniClass, UniFormat, or a custom classification, to associate attributes with items.
Configuring Maximo Asset Management for Building Information Models (BIM) applications
To import Construction-Operations Building information exchange (COBie) data and view building models, you must set up server directories, configure system properties, and create security groups in the applications for Building Information Models module in Maximo Asset Management .
Configuring building information model data
Before you import Construction-Operations Building information exchange (COBie) data into Maximo Asset Management , you define system settings, such as units of measure and currency codes and specify a classification type. You can also import classifications.
Configuring building information modeling (BIM) projects
Before you can import Construction-Operations Building information exchange (COBie) data into BIM projects, you define filters, map COBie attributes to existing Maximo attributes that include custom attributes, create projects at a site level, and configure global settings for each site.
Importing model data into Maximo Asset Management
After you create a project for facilities, you can import COBie data by using validate, import, update, and merge sessions for the project.
Exporting data from Maximo Asset Management to Construction-Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie)
An export session extracts data from Maximo Asset Management and saves it in a .XLSX file in COBie format. The file is attached to the project and can be viewed and downloaded from the Attachments tab. You can export data at a later data that reflects any asset changes in Maximo Asset Management . This data is useful input into the design process for renovation or for a new build.
Commissioning buildings
The as-built state of the building is defined in the model during construction. After you import the as-built model data into the BIM Projects application, you can commission the building and begin the process of maintaining it. Commissioning a building creates a bulk status update for all objects that are related to the building and have the specified starting status.
Managing building models
After you import the building model data into Maximo Asset Management , you can view the data in the assets and locations and also view the import session details.
Attribute maps for COBie data
You can map attributes and extension columns in your COBie data to fields in Maximo business objects and to the attribute types in specifications in Maximo Asset Management .
