WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment load-balanced clustering

You can set up clusters to manage sets of servers together. You can configure clusters to assist in workload management by using WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment.

Clusters make applications highly available by automatically routing requests to active servers when a failure occurs. A single cluster can host various servers on different computers. You can also add more nodes to the cluster, which achieves user scalability at the application server level.

In the following diagram, the process automation engine application cluster has two nodes, each with one application server. If either of the two application servers fail, requests are automatically routed to the server that is running by the IBM® HTTP Server or by external load-balancing technology.

The diagram is described in the main body of the topic.

You can configure attached documents for high availability, which makes the redundant shared file system available to all of the application server nodes and HTTP server nodes.
