Testing the LDAP connection by using the command line

System administrators can test the external LDAP connection by using the imaserver test LDAP command on the command line.

Before you begin

If you want to test a secure LDAP connection, you must specify a certificate to use with the connection in the command. For more information about importing a certificate for an LDAP connection, see Importing a certificate for an LDAP connection by using the command line.

About this task

You can test an external LDAP connection by using the command line, or by using the IBM® MessageSight Web UI. For more information about using the IBM MessageSight Web UI to test an external LDAP connection, see Configuring an external LDAP server by using the IBM MessageSight Web UI.

If an LDAP configuration exists, enter the command with no parameters to test the existing LDAP connection. You can also enter the command with a new LDAP server URL or a new BindPassword to test an updated configuration.

If no LDAP configuration exists, enter the command with the LDAP server URL, and optionally the BindDN and BindPassword parameters.

Procedure

To test an external LDAP connection, enter the following command:
Note: The command must be capitalized as shown, and must use the double quotation marks as shown. If you want to test a secure LDAP connection, you must specify the LDAP certificate in the command.

imaserver test LDAP [ "URL=url" ] [ "Certificate=certName" ] [ "BindDN=bindDNName" ] [ "BindPassword=password" ]

Where:
  • URL
    Optional.
Specifies the URL of the LDAP server.
The URL must be of the form: ldap://ipAddress:portNumber or ldaps://ipAddress:portNumber
If you use ldaps://, you must upload a certificate before you create the LDAP connection.
  • certName
    Optional.
Specifies the name of the LDAP certificate.
  • bindDNName
    Optional.
Specifies the distinguished name to use when you bind to LDAP.
  • password
    Optional.
Specifies the password to use when you bind to LDAP

Example

The following example shows the testing of an existing secure LDAP server connection with an updated URL and password configuration:
admin@(none)> imaserver test LDAP "URL=ldap://192.0.2.0:1000"
"Certificate=testLDAP.pem" "BindDN=cn=root" "BindPassword=password"
Test connection succeeded.
admin@(none)>
