Classifications for defects overview
Classifications provide a consistent way for inspectors to record the details of a defect and calculate a score for the defect.
As an administrator, you can set up two types of classifications:
- A hierarchy of defects classifications that an inspector can use to classify defects. The hierarchy can contain a parent-level classification and three further levels of classifications for categories, such as components or materials, types of defects, and causes of defects.
- A rating classification that allows inspectors to rate the individual attributes in the classification and from which a score is automatically calculated for each defect.
To set up classifications, you complete the following steps:
- If you want inspectors to classify defects based on categories such as components or materials, types of defects and causes of defects, create a hierarchy of defects classifications. After you create the hierarchy of defects classifications, you must link the hierarchy to assets to make the classifications available to inspectors whey they are creating a defect for the asset.
- If you want inspectors to rate attributes in a classification to automatically calculate a score for a defect, create a rating classification. After you create the rating classification, you must link the classification to assets to make the classification available to inspectors when they are creating a defect for the asset.
You can set up classifications by using the Classifications, Domains, and Assets (Civil) applications. Or, you can use the Maximo® Data LoaderMaximo Data Loader to import the data from a Microsoft Excel workbook that you create.
The /maxloader/data/files/Templates/Tunnel/MX4CI_SampleMaxloaderBridgeTemplate.xlsx template file contains sample data for a bridge. You can customize this template to create and configure classifications and classify assets for your environment and then use the Maximo Data Loader to load the file.
