Using the Operational map application

In Maximo® Civil Infrastructure 8.5 and later, the Operational map application is now available. In the Operational map application, you create and filter work orders. You can also create public or shared views to see the ongoing work that is related to your assets on a large geographic area on the map.

Before you begin

Ensure that the following requirements are completed:
  1. Your security group has access to the Maximo Civil Infrastructure applications. For more information, see Granting access to applications for Maximo Civil Infrastructure.
  2. Your security group has access to the Operational map application. For more information, see Granting access to the Operational Map application.
  3. The map is configured. For more information, see Configuring maps.
  4. The geometric data of the coordinates for assets, work orders, and possession work orders are set. For more information, see Configuring geometric data for the Operational Map application.
Note: If you are a civil inspector and any of these requirements are incomplete, contact your administrator.

About this task

In Maximo Civil Infrastructure 9.1 and later, improvements were made to filtering on the filter panel and the visual display of the map. For more information, see What's new in Maximo Civil Infrastructure 9.1

In Maximo Civil Infrastructure 8.6 and later:
  • In the list view, you can do the following actions:
    • Create work orders.
    • Create and manage views as private or shared to organize your data.
  • In the Map view, you can do the following actions:
    • Click the icons on the map to preview important information that is related to the assets, work orders, and possession work orders. When Maximo Civil Infrastructure is integrated with IBM® Maximo Health, you can determine the health score of the asset by viewing the asset health risk, criticality, and end of life.
    • When you click the possession work order preview card, you can review the information and the list of included work orders and candidate work orders. You can include candidate work orders in the Included work orders section.

Procedure

  1. In the Operational map application, click Table view.
  2. Create a work order.
    1. Click Create work order.
    2. In the Create work order page, add any relevant details for the work order.
    3. Click Save to save the work order.
    In the Operational map application, you can also see all the work orders that were created in the Work Order Tracking (Civil) application.
  3. Save a private or shared view to view all the relevant work orders that are related to your assets in the map.
    1. Select all the relevant work orders that are related to your assets.
    2. Click Expand > Save as new view.
    3. In the Save new view dialog, in the View title field, specify a name for the view.
    4. Optional: To save the view as default, select the Save as my default view option.
    5. Optional: In the Sharing options section, deselect the Public view option if you want to create a private view.
      By default, the Public view option is selected.
    6. Click Save.
      The new view is created and in the map view you can see the assets, work orders and possession work orders that are part of the view.
  4. Click the Map view to view all the assets, work orders and possession work orders.
  5. Click on any of the assets, work order and possession work orders in the map to verify the status of the ongoing work.
