As a civil inspector, you can use the Defect Detection application to create folders to store asset photos and choose a visual inspection model for analysis.
You can also upload individual photos or stitch them into a single image. Review the photos or analysis results, then create defects.

Procedure

From the side navigation menu, click .

Create a folder.

On the Defect detection page, click Create folder.
- In Maximo Civil Infrastructure 9.0, in the Model field, click the Search icon to select a model.
In the
Select visual inspection model dialog, select a model from the list whether you want the photos to be analyzed with a deployed model or a manual model:
- Deployed model in IBM Maximo Visual Inspection
- When you select a deployed model for inspections, photos are analyzed automatically in Maximo Visual Inspection and you review the results of the analysis to create defects. The Deployed model column indicates whether the model is deployed in Maximo Visual Inspection.
- Manual model
- When you select a manual model for inspections, you review the individual photos manually.
- Optional: Specify an asset for the defect.
If the specified asset is related to a location, then the location field is automatically populated with the details
from the asset. You can change the asset and location information.
- Optional: Specify location for the folder.
- Optional: In the Details section, specify a classification for a defect.

Click Complete to finalize the folder.
The folder is now displayed in the Defect detection page, in the Folder list.

Click Upload photos and upload photos for analysis.

In the Upload photos dialog, in Maximo Civil Infrastructure 9.1 and later, choose a visual inspection model or a manual model.

- When you select a deployed model for inspections, photos are analyzed automatically in Maximo Visual Inspection, and you review the results of the analysis to create defects. The Deployed model column indicates whether the model is deployed in Maximo Visual Inspection.
- Manual model
- When you select a manual model for inspections, you review the individual photos manually.

Choose one of the following options to upload photos for inspection:

| Photos to stitch |
Photo stitching is the process of combining multiple photos with overlapping fields to produce a high-resolution overview image. Ensure that the photos were taken with a device that uses the high-resolution grid mode. For more information about image stitching, see Photo stitching in the Defect detection application.
- In the Upload photos dialog, select Photos to stitch, then click Next.
- In the Upload photos to stitch dialog, click the Upload icon to upload the .json file that contains the stitched image configuration.
- After the file is uploaded, click Next.
- In the Upload photos to stitch dialog, click Upload
to upload the photos to stitch.
- After the photos are uploaded, click the Upload icon to complete the upload.
Note: When the stitching process is completed, a new overview image with all the individual photos stitched together is created for the folder and is represented by a new photo thumbnail with the  icon.

- In the Upload photos dialog, select Individual photos, then click Next.
- In the Upload individual photos dialog, click the Upload icon to upload the individual photos.
- After the photos are uploaded, click the Upload icon to complete the upload.

By default, each photo that is uploaded to the folder is represented by a photo thumbnail and is tagged as New.

Analyze the photos.
If you selected a deployed model for inspections, photos
are analyzed automatically in Maximo Visual Inspection and you review the results of the analysis to create defects. After photos are uploaded, the analysis starts automatically in Maximo Visual Inspection.
If you selected a manual model, you review the photos.

Click the Refresh icon on the folder to check the status of the analysis or the photo upload.

When the analysis is complete or the photos are uploaded, review the results of the analysis or review the photos.
An icon on a photo thumbnail indicates that anomalies were found during the analysis.

On the Review results page, review the photo and create defects.
Ensure that you have the latest updates for the defect by clicking Refresh. If the defect is updated in the Defects function, the defect is also updated in the Defect detection application.

If anomalies were detected, on the Anomalies tab, ensure that the anomalies are accurate.
To create a more accurate defect, you can also change the category of a detected anomaly, change its outline, or outline a new anomaly.

Select one or more anomalies and then on the More actions menu, click .
- On the Create defect page, add any relevant detail for the defect.
- Click Complete to finalize the defect.
- Optional: Add any other relevant defect for the photo.
- Optional: When you are done reviewing the photo, click .
The photo thumbnail in the folder is now indicated by the Reviewed tag.
