Configuring Maximo Mobile

Configure IBM® Maximo® Mobile to provide technicians with the asset management capabilities they need.

Before you begin

As a system administrator, before you configure Maximo Mobile, having some background and the correct system access helps you be successful.
  • You must be familiar with Maximo Manage architecture.
  • You must have system administrator access to Maximo Manage.
  • You must have access to Maximo Manage pod logs. Access to monitoring platforms like Instana® is an advantage.
  • Install Application Configuration. For more information, see Application Configuration.
    Note: For Maximo Mobile testing and development, contact IBM support to request an Android or Windows version that enables you to see a console and incoming requests from the Maximo Mobile app.

Configure Maximo Mobile settings in Maximo Manage

Configure settings for Maximo Mobile application in Maximo Manage.

Procedure

  1. Create a cron task to preload the database with lookup data from all defined data sources that are defined in Maximo Mobile applications.
    For more information, see Preloaded data on mobile devices.
  2. Configure Map Manager in an environment with Maximo Spatial Asset Management.
    For more information, see Configuring Map Manager.
  3. Configure a Maximo Application Suite notification and set user subscriptions.
    For more information, see Configuring push notifications.
  4. Starting in Maximo Mobile 9.1, configure Maximo Mobile to ignore mobile devices and emulators that report false GPS location information.

  5. Configure the Maximo Mobile applications to require physical signatures for work orders based on their statuses.
    For more information, see Recording physical signatures.
  6. To help inspectors detect defects during inspections, enable analysis of the photos that the inspector takes during the inspection.
  7. Starting in Maximo Mobile 9.1, you can download and resize Maximo Mobile images that use ImgLib.
    For more information, see Downloading images with ImgLib.
  8. Starting in Maximo Mobile 9.1, you can deliver more details about child data that is contained in transactional data records during a synchronization of delta information.
  9. Starting in Maximo Mobile 9.0, you can enable the long description field to use it in data sources and other places.

Configure settings in Maximo Mobile

Configure settings in the Maximo Mobile application.

Procedure

  1. To use the Maximo Mobile application with Maximo Manage, set the URL of your Maximo Application Suite server in the application.
  2. Starting in Maximo Mobile 9.1, configure a default browser to use when you log in to the server from Android, iOS, and Windows devices.
  3. Starting in Maximo Mobile 9.1, designate a mobile device as shared.

  4. Starting in Maximo Mobile 9.1, in environments that require users to share mobile devices, configure Maximo Mobile to enable offline users to log in to Maximo Mobile by using local authentication.
  5. Create a service address that includes map location data.
  6. Configure user location sharing to allocate work orders based on a technician's proximity and availability. Location sharing is active while the mobile device is in online mode.

  7. Use e-signature keys in your web browser or your mobile device to confirm that a status change or attribute value update is complete and valid.

Configure external settings

Complete the remaining steps to configure Maximo Mobile.

Procedure

  1. Understand the Maximo Mobile authentication and data flow.
  2. Review the object structures and queries that are used in the Maximo Mobile applications.
  3. For Android or iOS devices, users install the IBM Maximo Mobile application from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
  4. Configure an application to direct queries to the server and limit the number of records that are returned.

  5. Configure Maximo Mobile application settings for a single user from a command line.
  6. Configure Maximo Mobile application settings by using a mobile device manager such as Microsoft Intune.
