Adding specifications to parts

You can add specifications that define a part.

About this task

Use the Specifications tab to classify a part and to apply the template that is associated with the classification you used. Specification templates contain attributes about a part, such as the size, the speed, the material, and the capacity. Use this list of attributes to define specific information about a part, making it simpler to distinguish a part from a similar part.

Procedure

  1. In the Part Number Master application, select a part and open the Specifications tab.
  2. In the Classification field, click Detail Menu and then Classify to select a classification path for the part.
  3. In the Alphanumeric field or in the Numeric field, type a value.
  4. In the Unit of Measure field, type a value or click Select Value to retrieve the unit of measure that is used to express the attribute.
    For example, if the attribute is SPEED, the unit of measure can be HP (horsepower).
  5. Click Save Part to associate the specification values with the record for the part. If you need to change the specifications for a part, either reclassify the part using the Classification field or change the values in the Specifications table.
