Determining the correct default workflow

If you have the Maximo IT, you can use either the express or the advanced workflow as your default workflow. You can determine which workflow to use by considering a set of factors related to your business needs.

You can link the default workflow that you select with the Workflow icon in the toolbar and navigation pane. When the workflow is linked to the workflow icon, it starts by default when you start the Change process. You create this link by specifying the pmchg.process.workflow property in the System Configuration application. See "Specifying your default workflow" for more information.

The following table provides information about when you might want to choose the advanced workflow (PMCHGMAIN1) or one of the express workflows (PMCHGFIXD1 or PMCHGFLEXD1) as your default workflow.

This workflow... Is best when you...
Advanced
PMCHGMAIN1
  • Need automated analytics to hope handle large volumes of Change requests; for example, you Changes might require automated risk calculation
  • Need to identify all of the outages that are expected during implementation, so that you can schedule Changes to avoid unplanned outages
  • Need to identify schedule conflicts to improve the implementation success rate and avoid unplanned outages
  • Want to do detailed assessments
Express (wizard)
PMCHGFIXD1
  • Want a simple, manual Change process and want to be comfortable that all of the required steps will be followed. This workflow starts when you click the workflow icon and automatically proceeds to the next step when a step is completed; you do not have to click the icon after each step.
Express (step by step)
PMCHGFLEXD1
  • Want a simple, manual Change process and need maximum flexibility for managing the process step sequence. This workflow manages the same process steps as the PMCHGFIXD1 workflow, but it proceeds to the next step only when you click the workflow icon; you can change the status to an early process phase to go back to that phase.
