Associating software images with a DML repository

When you create or edit a Definitive Media Library (DML) repository, you populate the repository with references to one or more software image CIs. The CIs that you select are either registered to the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) or stored on an operational management product (OMP). You can select CIs directly from an OMP that was defined as the management application for the repository, select CIs directly from CMDB, or create a new CI.

About this task

When you click the Software Images tab to open the Software Images view, you can click Configuration Items to display a list of all of the software image CIs that are currently associated with the repository that you are working with. If you are creating a new repository or adding software images to an existing repository, do one of the following to open a dialog box in which you can specify CIs to add:
  • Click New Row to open the Add New CI dialog box, where you can specify a new CI to add to the Software Images list.
  • Click Select from CMDB to open the Select Software Images dialog box, which lists software image CIs that are registered to CMDB; you select one or more CIs.
  • Click Select from OMP if you specified an application management system (or OMP) to associate with the repository. The Select Software Images dialog box opens, and you can select from a list of software images that are managed by the OMP.

After you associate software images with a DML repository, a request is automatically sent to Configuration Management, informing the Configuration Manager that new CIs were brought in to the CMDB and asking that the state of the CIs be changed to OPERATING. After the state is changed, the CIs are available for use in distributions.
