Creating a DML repository

Create a Definitive Media Library (DML) repository. Typically, DML repositories reference related sets of software image CIs. A repository might be used as a store room or a file system; in that case, it would contain references to related software images that are registered to the CMDB but not under the management of an operational management product (OMP), such as Tivoli® Provisioning Manager.

About this task

OMP-managed repositories reference software images that are stored on the associated OMP.

After you create a DML repository, you can select from the associated list of software images to create manual software distribution tasks (for non-OMP-managed software images) or automated software distribution tasks (for images that are stored on an OMP). You can add to a repository over time, as new software becomes available for distribution in your environment. You can also create new repositories, remove images from a repository, and otherwise manage your DML repositories.

To create a DML repository, perform the following steps:

Procedure

  1. In the Definitive Media Libraries application, click New icon to open a Repository view in which to create the new repository.
  2. Type a name for the repository in the Name field. Make the name succinct but descriptive, so that other users can easily recognize the contents and purpose of the repository.
  3. If the repository is to contain software images that are stored on an OMP that you are using for software distribution, such as Tivoli Provisioning Manager, click Detail menu icon next to the Name field in the Management Application section, and select the OMP from which you want to pull images for distribution. See Selecting an OMP for more information.

This is the most important step in creating a DML repository. You can point to any management server that was discovered; by specifying this server, you are identifying the physical system that is the repository. Later, after you build and test a software image and check the image into the management server, you can create a reference to the image in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and point to the reference as a source for a distribution.

  4. Fill in any of the other fields that you want to have values for this repository. For example, you can assign a classification to classify the repository, indicate the owner of the repository, or supply any other information that is appropriate. You can open the repository at any time to add or edit information.
  5. Click Save icon to save the new repository.
