PMRELEASE job plan

The PMRELEASE job plan can be used out-of-the-box to plan and structure specific release work plans. The built-in job plan is derived from the Release Management process description that is stored in IBM® Tivoli® Unified Process (ITUP) Composer. This job plan is a kind of template that mirrors a standard release process in a typical IT environment. It contains all of the activities and tasks that are typically used for release processes.

Task summaries, details, and ordering in the built-in job plan match the standard release process in ITUP, with two exceptions: ITUP steps are skipped when they are automated by a built-in release job plan (such as a Progress change when a task is completed); and the built-in job plan adds explicit Approval tasks that are not included in the ITUP process.

It is expected that within a short time of installing this product, you will have extensively customized your set of job plans. However, if you are using the product early and have not yet made these customizations, you can apply this built-in job plan with the confidence that this plan meets the needs of a wide range of IT releases.

Job plan structure

The built-in release job plan is named Release Process Template.

The following table shows the PMRELEASE job plan and its nested Activity job plans. As the names of the Activities suggest, this job plan encompasses a standard, comprehensive release process that can be used for many different kinds of releases. To view the individual tasks that are contained in the Activities, open the Release Process Template (PMRELEASE) job plan in the Job Plans application, where you can examine the tasks.
