Meters in locations
Adding meters to location records lets you enter meter readings and maintain historical records of meter readings against a location.
Before you can attach a meter to a location, use the Meters application to add the meter. Use the Assets application to configure assets to accept meter readings from their locations. Then, by adding meters to locations, such as assembly lines, meter readings can roll down to all the assets that are in those locations. The following types of meters are supported:
- Continuous meters measure consumption and are cumulative. These types of meters track items, such as miles traveled, hours elapsed, engines started, pieces produced, or fuel consumed.
- Gauge meters show a range of values, such as fuel levels, temperature, pressure, noise level or, oil level. Gauge meters are recorded via condition monitoring points.
- Characteristic meters are observational in nature and have a list of possible values. These types of meters are used to track items, such as noise level, vibration level, clarity, or color. Characteristic meters are recorded via condition monitoring points.
Meter readings for a location do not roll down to child locations.
Example of temperature meter readings
Use meter readings, such as room temperature, to help you to evaluate whether a heating system or a cooling system is working properly.
