Deployment to an environment that has different products or versions
If the target environment has products and version levels that differ from the source environment, the deployment might stop. You might be able to continue the deployment by excluding some products from the compatibility checks.
When you deploy a package, Migration Manager checks for compatibility and shows the differences in the Version Compatibility window. You cannot deploy packages that are incompatible because the package content might cause errors or invalid product configurations. However, if the differences between the products and version levels are minor, you can exclude some products from the compatibility checks and continue the deployment.
The following product compatibility rules determine whether the deployment stops or can continue:
- If the version or release numbers do not match, the deployment stops.
- If the modification or fix pack numbers do not match, an information message is shown but the deployment can continue.
- If the interim fix numbers do not match, an information message is shown but the deployment can continue.
- If the target has products that are not in the source, an information message is shown but the deployment can continue.
- If the source has products that are not in the target, you must exclude the products from the compatibility checks to continue.
Products are numbered in the following format: version.release.modification.fix_pack-interim_fix. For example, 7.5.1.3-LX20110928 means version 7, release 5, modification 1, fix pack 3, interim fix LX20110928.
