Comparing source and target databases

For each package definition, you can identify the differences between a source database and a target database before you deploy the package. The results of a database comparison can help you determine the configuration content that must be migrated.

The results of a database comparison can be added to a migration collection, which you can then use to create the packages that must be migrated.

Before you begin

Before you can run a database comparison, the package definition must exist in the source environment and the target must be defined in the Migration Manager application.

About this task

You can run a database comparison at different times to help determine what content must be migrated and tested. You can specify any type of package definition for the database comparison.

The results of the database comparison indicate whether the records match or whether the records are in only the source database or the target database.

Procedure

  1. In the Migration Manager application, select a package definition.
  2. On the Comparison tab, click Start Comparison Job.
  3. Select a target database and click Start Job.
  4. Click Refresh Job Status and review the status messages.
  5. Optional: When the job finishes, add the results to a migration collection.
