Changing the CI lifecycle state

You can change the CI lifecycle state of a configuration item by modifying its status in the Configuration Items application.

Before you begin

To change a CI from one lifecycle state to another, follow these steps:

Procedure

  1. Click Open menu > IT Infrastructure > Configuration Items to open the Configuration Items application.
  2. Locate the CI whose state you want to change. Enter part or all of its name in the Configuration Item field and press Enter.
  3. Choose the Change status action.
  4. If the CI is currently in a protected state, or if you are moving it to a protected state, a valid change is required. The change must be in Approved or In Progress state, and it must identify the CI as a target. In the Change Number field, enter the number of the change, or select it from a list.
  5. Click the New Status list to see the states to which this CI can be moved from its current state. Choose a state from the list.
  6. Enter the date on which the change is effective plus any comments.
  7. Click OK.

What to do next

You can change the status of several configuration items at the same time if they have the same current state and you want to change them to the same new state. if any of the configuration items are in a protected state, you can change their status together only if they are all targets of the same change work order.

To change the status of several configuration items at once, view the record list, select the check boxes for all the configuration items whose status you want to change, and follow the preceding steps to change their status.
