Linking CIs to assets

You can link assets maintained in Maximo IT with configuration items maintained in the product by setting up escalations that link assets to configuration items based on matches established through reconciliation tasks.

In the Configuration Items application, you can manually link a configuration item (CI) to an asset. You do this by selecting the configuration item and then associating it with an asset using the Asset field on the CI Details tab. In cases where there are large numbers of assets that you want to link to CIs, you can automate the link between the asset to the CI. The automated process uses a link rule in a reconciliation task to find a match between an asset and a CI. After a match is found, an action scheduled through the Escalations application associates the appropriate asset number with the CI.
