Configuration management processes

Configuration management processes help you to manage your environment in an orderly and accountable way.

Maximo IT provides two configuration management processes:
  • A process for updating one or more authorized configuration items, possibly as the result of a change that has been made.
  • A process for configuring and running an audit to compare the actual and authorized versions of a group of configuration items

Maximo IT provides a process for updating one or more authorized configuration items, possibly as the result of a change that has been made.

You start a configuration management process by opening a request in the Process Requests application and choosing a type of request under the Configuration category. If you use one of the predefined types of configuration management process requests, you must select the configuration items that are to be used in the process. These selected CIs are passed to the tasks that are included in the related job plans.

When you accept the request, a configuration management process is generated, and you can work with it in the Configuration Processes application. You can review the predefined job plan that has been applied and change it if you wish. You can change the status of the current task. When you change a task to completed state, the next task will change to in progress.

Some tasks will set up work for you, using the CIs that were identified in the original request. For example, in an audit request, one of the tasks is to set up a cron job. The task will do the initial setup, and then you will review the parameters, modify them if you wish, and activate the cron job.
