Configuration management job plans
Job plans provide structured lists of tasks for processing a request. Maximo IT provides predefined job plans for common configuration management request types.
Configuration management provides three predefined job plans to use in response to configuration-related process requests. When you apply a job plan to a work order, the work order is populated with the activities and tasks in the job plan. After applying the job plan, you can change the activities and tasks in the work order without affecting the job plan itself. You can modify these job plans or copy them to create new ones that meet your specific needs.
If a process request is created by choosing one of the predefined configuration management process classifications, the appropriate job plan will be applied automatically.
Update CIs (UPDATE CI)
This job plan contains tasks to perform in handling a request to update a CI record.
- Task 10: Review Update CI request and work plan
- This is a manual task, in which you review the details of the update request and ensure that the subsequent tasks will meet the goals of the requestor.
- Task 20: Determine requested CI changes
- Review the requested changes. Depending on the nature of the changes, you might make the updates manually, or use a different method such as synchronization.
- Task 30: Make CI attribute changes if requested
- If the request includes updates to CI attributes, make those changes by the most appropriate method.
- Task 40: Make CI relationship changes if requested
- If the request includes updates to CI relationships, make those changes by the most appropriate method.
Audit CIs (AUDITCI)
This job plan contains tasks to perform in handling a request to perform an audit on a group of CIs. It includes tasks to complete before running the reconciliation report. The default job plan includes these tasks:
- Task 10: Review Audit CI request and work plan
- This is a manual task, in which you review the details of the audit request and ensure that the subsequent tasks will meet the goals of the requestor.
- Task 20: Define the reconciliation, define and activate the cron task
- In execution of this task, the process automatically defines the reconciliation task, the task filter, the reconciliation link rule and comparison rule, and the reconciliation cron task. You can modify any of these definitions; for example, you can create a new task filter to make the actual CI the leading comparison set, or you can create a new comparison rule to compare some specific attributes. Check the schedule and activate the cron task that runs the reconciliation task.
- Task 30: Define and activate the escalation
- The escalation is to monitor the new comparison results. A new Audit CI 2 process is created for you to review and remediate the CI reconciliation results. The Audit CI 2 process is described in the Audit CIs phase 2 section that follows.
- Task 40: Send an email notification to CI owners
- This task ensures that the owners of affected configuration items are informed about problems and updates.
Audit CIs phase 2 (AUDITCI2)
This job plan contains tasks to perform after running a reconciliation report in response to a request to perform an audit on a group of CIs. If you have a reconciliation report that is run regularly by a cron task, you can use this job plan to specify the tasks to be performed after each time the report is run. The default job plan includes these tasks:
- Task 10: Review CI Link and Reconciliation Results
- In this task, you review the results of the reconciliation that was defined and run in phase 1.
- Task 20: Remediate the variances
- If variances are identified, you must decide what actions to take. Review related records and history views. Did this variance appear in a previous report? You might choose to modify authorized CIs or open a problem against the actual CIs.
- Task 30: Send an email notification to CI owners
- This task ensures that the owners of affected configuration items are informed about problems and updates.
