Validating and starting a Change

After you supply definitions for a new Change, you route the Change to the workflow, unless you have already indicated that the workflow should start. If you have a response plan defined that matches the Change, the workflow applies the response plan to fill in any outstanding definitions. The workflow then validates that the Change contains all of the necessary information, and the assessment phase is started.

About this task

At any time after you supply initial definitions for a Change work order, click Workflow icon to route the Change to the workflow that is associated with your Change process, or click Custom Route Workflow icon to select from a list of all of the workflows, including built-in and custom workflows, that are active in your environment. Initially, the workflow can apply a response plan if one exists and you have not applied it manually. The response plan can locate the correct job plan, which brings in the Change type, lists of assessors and approvers, and the implementation tasks for the Change.

After you route the Change to a workflow, the workflow icon changes to indicate that it is in progress. The Workflow icon changes to Workflow in progress icon. The Custom Route Workflow icon changes to Custom Route Workflow in preogress icon.

After the workflow validates that all of the necessary information has been supplied, either manually or through a response plan, it starts the Change process by sending assessment assignments to the defined assessors of the Change. This begins the assessment phase.
