Performing an assessment

When the assessment phase of a Change begins, the workflow routes assignments to all of the assessors and assessor groups that have assessment assignments.

About this task

If you are a technical assessor, you assess the effects of a Change on some area of the infrastructure, such as storage, the network, security, and so on. Business assessors evaluate the financial, operational, regulatory, or other business-related effects. The type of assessment that you perform is displayed in the Assessment Type field of your assessment record, and any specific instructions are provided in the Assessment Description field.

After you perform the assessment to which you are assigned, you complete the following fields in the assessment record. The assessment is listed in the Assessments tab of the change:

Results
A description of the results of your assessment.
Implementation Notes
A description of any additional work that might need to be performed during the Change implementation, such as identifying prerequisites, installing or updating a database or application, and so on. For example, an implementation note for a software update Change might indicate whether the server needs to be taken down during the update. The Change Owner consults the implementation notes when he or she creates implementation tasks.
Cost
The estimated monetary cost of this Change for the area being assessed. The sum of the costs entered by all assessors is displayed in the Assessment Summary section.
Effort
The estimated hours of effort required to implement this Change in the area being assessed. The sum of the effort estimated by all assessors is displayed in the Assessment Summary section.
Impact
A summary rating of the impact, such as None, Low, Medium, or High. After you set an impact value, the Assessor field is populated with your user ID. This field is set to display the user ID of the user who performed the assessment.
