Activating a baseline version

Activating a baseline version takes a benchmark of the member CIs at the time of activation. You can no longer update a baseline version after you activate it. A baseline version must be active in order to use it in comparisons.

Before you begin

Before you activate a baseline version, you should ensure that it reflects the desired state of the member CIs. Review the member CIs to be sure that their attributes and relationships are correct. It is a best practice to verify that the actual and authorized versions of the CIs are identical, by auditing the CIs using the reconciliation module applications.

About this task

Any user can activate a baseline version.

Procedure

  1. Click Open menu > IT Infrastructure > CI Baselines to open the CI Baselines application.
  2. Open the baseline version that you wish to activate. Be sure that you have saved your latest changes before activating.
  3. The activation process automatically validates the member CIs. If you wish, you can validate the baseline version before you activate it. To run validation manually, click the validate icon.
  4. To activate the baseline version, choose the Activate the Baseline action.

What to do next

After you activate the baseline version, you can use it to compare to the current state of the actual CIs that correspond to the member CIs.

After a baseline version has been activated, it cannot be deactivated. If you need to modify the baseline, to add new CIs or take an updated benchmark, create a new version. You can delete versions that you no longer need, although you should be sure that you do not need them for audits or other purposes.
