Modifying CI attributes that were modified by a task

Use this task to specify configuration item (CI) attributes that are modified by a task. For example, a task that adds memory to a server modifies the memory attribute for that server. After you specify a modification, the CI is updated accordingly when the task is completed.

About this task

CI attributes for tasks are modified in the Move/Swap/Modify dialog window. This topic focuses on the modification of CI attributes, which is one of many operations that can be performed in the Move/Swap/Modify dialog box.

To modify the attributes of CIs associated with a task, perform the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Click Open menu > Change > Activities and Tasks to go to the Activities and Tasks application.
  2. Open the task, and select Move/Swap/Modify from the Common Action menu. The Move/Swap/Modify dialog window is displayed.
  3. Open the Modify tab, and then open the Configuration Item tab. The CIs section lists all of the CIs that are associated with the task; CI specifications, including attributes, are displayed in the CI Specifications section.
  4. With a CI row highlighted, select an attribute in the Specifications section that you want to modify, and click Modify Attribute to display fields in which to modify the selected attribute. For example, type a new value for the Memory attribute if the task adds memory to a computer.
  5. After you have specified all of the CI attribute modifications that apply for this task, click Save as Plan.

Clicking Save as Plan causes the CI to be updated as specified when the task is completed. Save as Plan is the preferred choice if you want to synchronize the Change and Configuration Management processes.
