Searching external knowledge bases

When you perform a search of available knowledge bases, you can specify any of the knowledge bases that are configured for your searches. Knowledge bases can be either external sites such as IBM, Google, Bing, and Yahoo, or an internal site that is configured for searching.

About this task

Before you search external knowledge bases, open the Global Search application (Open menu > Service Desk > Global Search) and open the Search External Knowledge Bases tab.

Procedure

Perform these steps to search one or more knowledge bases:

  1. In the Enter search terms field, type a search string that defines what you are looking for. You can use a variety of logical operators. See Search string syntax for more information.
  2. Check one or more knowledge bases listed in the Search External Knowledge Bases table.
  3. Click Search to run the search engine.
For each knowledge base that will be searched, a new browser window opens to display links within that knowledge base where you can go for the information. If multiple knowledge bases are selected, the browser windows are stacked.
