Use the Licenses application to create a new license based
on an existing one that serves as a template. Because license records
can be complex, it can be more efficient to create a new license by
copying another one whose attribute values are similar.
About this task
When you duplicate a license, the system automatically generates
a unique identifier for the new license. You can overwrite this number
or you can append to the number to differentiate it from other license
identifiers. For example, if you have multiple sites and want to identify
licenses by site or location, you can append the license number with
an indicator such as a building number or site name.
When
duplicating a license, relationships to other licenses and to software
contracts are not copied to the new license. Also not copied
are license keys and license costs. However, license
allocations, software relationships, and most other attributes are copied. Dates
are changed to the current date, (except for Terminate Date, which is made empty),
and the new license identifier is automatically generated for you,
though you can edit it.
The steps for duplicating a license
follow.
