Input triggers

Configure the method that triggers an input source to capture and process images during an inspection.

Input source

An input source is the method by which images are sent to an inspection for processing. All inspections must include an input source. Input sources include cameras, folders that contain images, and folders that contain videos.

Input trigger types

An input trigger is the method by which an input source is triggered to capture an image. You can configure two types of input triggers:

  • Single shot triggers
  • Time-based triggers

Single shot triggers

A single shot trigger uses an external system to trigger when an input source captures an image.

Specify the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) topic that you want to subscribe to. When an external system publishes a message from the MQTT topic to the internal MQTT broker in Maximo® Visual Inspection Edge, the input source is triggered to capture an image.

Note: The information in MQTT messages is included as user metadata when images are sent to Maximo Visual Inspection. This information is also available for inclusion in alerts when a rule's conditions are matched and the MQTT messages contain valid JSON objects.

Time-based triggers

A time-based trigger uses a time interval value in seconds and tenths of seconds to specify how often an input source is triggered to capture an image.

For example, enter a value of 5 to capture an image every 5 seconds, enter a value of 1.5 to capture an image every 1.5 seconds, or enter a value of 0.5 to capture an image every half of a second.
