Scenario: Downloading, deploying, and using a new model
The goal of this scenario is to improve the performance of an inspection by downloading a model, deploying it in Maximo® Visual Inspection Edge, and updating the inspection to use it.
In this scenario, unusual results for an inspection indicate that its model is inaccurate. Your model builder trains a new model in Maximo Visual Inspection, gives you the model name, and advises you to update the inspection to use the new model.
To complete this scenario, take the following steps:
- Download and deploy the new model.
- Update the inspection to use the new model.
Step 1: Download and deploy the new model
Now that you know the name of the new model, download and deploy it in Maximo Visual Inspection Edge by completing the following steps:
- In the side bar, click Models.
- On the Models page, view the GPU usage capacity meter and verify that your system can accommodate the new model.
- On the Downloadable tab, locate the new model and click it to download it. After you download the model, it appears on the Local tab.
- Optional: On the Local tab, click the model to view its performance metrics. These metrics indicate how accurately the model identified objects in images during its training.
- On the Local tab, select the model and click the Deploy icon.
- In the dialog, click Deploy. The Deployed capsule appears in the model’s image when the deployment is complete.
Step 2: Update the inspection to use the new model
After you deploy the new model, update the inspection to use it by completing the following steps:
- In the dashboard, click the inspection that uses the inaccurate model.
- In the inspection, click Disable inspection and acknowledge the warning message.
- In the Deployed model location field, select Local server.
- In the Deployed model field, select the new model.
- Click Review inspection. Use the test inspection functionality to evaluate the new model’s accuracy and update the rule configuration if required.
- Click Enable inspection.
Next steps
Open the Images tab and verify that the inspection uses the new model to inspect the latest images. You can still see older images, but the new model does not reinspect old images. Review the latest inspection results to verify that the new model identifies objects more accurately than the original model.
Monitor the inspection's performance on the dashboard. If the number of inconclusive results remains high, work with your model builder to identify and resolve the problem. You might also need to adjust rule configuration or resolve image quality issues.
