Adding devices

Create a compressor device type and a sensor device type and add devices.

Note: Starting from Maximo® Monitor 9.1, streaming data metrics are no longer available. The documentation provided for streaming data metrics applies only to Maximo Monitor 9.0 and earlier versions. Try using batch data metrics. For more information, see Creating batch or streaming data metrics
Note: To complete this tutorial, you use a sample device type template and data. Sample device types do not use the latest version of device types and do not support streaming data metrics. For more information, see Creating batch or streaming data metrics.

Simulate the device types by using the Robot device type template. Assign an alias to the devices.

Step 1: Create sample device types

  1. On the Setup page, on the Devices tab, create a device type.
  2. Select the Sample robot type template.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Assign the name Compressor and add a description to the device type.
  5. Click Create.
  6. Wait at least 5 minutes for the function pipeline to generate data.
  7. Repeat these steps to create another device type. Assign the name Sensor.

Step 2: Assign an alias to each device

  1. Assign an alias to the compressor devices.
    1. Select the Compressor device type and then click Set up device type.
    2. Change the identifier for devices of this type to Device name (Alias).
    3. Set the device names to: Compressor_1, Compressor_2, Compressor_3, Compressor_4, Compressor_5.
  2. Assign an alias to the sensor devices.
    1. Select the Sensor device type and then click Set up device type.
    2. Change the identifier for devices of this type to Device name (Alias).
    3. Set the device names to:
      Speed-sensor-south
      Vibration-sensor-south
      Speed-sensor-west
      Vibration-sensor-west
Important: In built-in or custom functions, use the device ID and not the alias name.

You will add calculations and dashboards to the devices later.
