Adding custom devices

A custom device is a device in Maximo® Monitor that you specify your own metrics, dimensions, and details for. Alternatively, you can add devices from the device library, where metrics, dimensions, and details are already specified and editable.

Procedure

  1. On the Setup page, on the Devices tab, click Add device.
  2. Click Add custom device and then click Continue.
  3. In the Device ID field, specify the device ID.
  4. Choose the token type for the device.
    You can use an autogenerated token or specify a custom token. Each device requires a unique device ID and a unique token.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Copy and save the authentication token and method for the device.
    The token is not recoverable.
  7. Add the following credentials to the physical device:
    • Device ID
    • Device type
    • Authentication method
    • Authentication token
    • Organization, if the device is in a hierarchy

You can also add devices directly to device types or gateways. The device type or gateway configuration determines whether you can add devices from the library or custom devices to the device type or gateway. A device type or gateway can support either library devices or custom devices but not both.
