Issuing items

In the Inventory Work Center, you can issue items directly from a storeroom or from a list of items that are reserved in work order plans.

About this task

When you issue items, material use transactions are created and item costs are charged to one of several debit GL accounts. If items are issued from a reservation, the charged entity is already specified on the associated work order or task. If items are issued from a storeroom, you specify the entity to issue to, and the following rules are used to charge the associated GL account:
  • When you issue items to a task or work order, the cost is charged to the GL account for the task or work order.
  • When you issue items to an asset, the cost is charged to the GL account for the asset.
  • When you issue items to a location that has a single asset, the cost is charged to the GL account for the asset. If more than one asset is in the location, the cost is charged to the location.
  • If none of these situations apply, such as for a set of cleaning items, specify a debit GL account to be charged for the item cost.
