Split Usage Quantity feature
If you require a quantity of inventory items that exceeds the amount that is stored in a single storage bin, you can split the inventory usage line across multiple bins to meet the required quantity.
When the default bin does not contain a sufficient quantity of items to satisfy the quantity on the inventory usage line, you can create a single inventory usage line to request items from multiple storage bins. When the inventory usage record is complete, multiple transactions are initiated to source the items from the locations you specified. The split usage quantity feature initiates different behavior for rotating items and for non-rotating items.
- Non-rotating items
- When the quantity in a storage bin does not meet the required quantity on the inventory usage line, the split usage quantity feature is activated. The feature is triggered when the status of the record changes to Staged, Shipped, or Complete. When you are prompted, you must specify the additional bins to source the items from in the Split Usage Quantity window. You can either click New Row or Auto-Split. You can also modify the original usage line quantity, or cancel this process.
- Rotating items
- All rotating item usage lines that have a quantity of more than one must be split, as each usage line can contain only one rotating asset. You can select from a list of rotating items to meet the required quantity on the inventory usage line. The total quantity must be less than or equal to the quantity on the corresponding usage line. You can also automatically add rotating items to the record by clicking Auto-Split.
Auto-Split feature
You can eliminate the manual process of selecting multiple storage bins or individual rotating assets, by selecting Auto-Split from the Split Usage Quantity window.
The Auto-Split feature checks the following item attributes and assigns the available stocked items:
- A lotted item is requested. The inventory balances are sorted by the USEBY date, and the closest expiring lot items are selected. Subsequent expiring lots are allocated to the inventory usage line until the quantity is met.
- A non-rotating item or non-lotted item is requested. If the quantity of the default bin is insufficient, the Split Usage Quantity window opens and the bins are listed by the balance in ascending order. The listed bins are sourced in order until the quantity is met.
- A rotating item is requested and the quantity is more than one. The Auto-Split feature searches for all available rotating items and sorts the list in ascending order. The first available item is assigned to the first split line, and the second item is assigned to the second, until the quantity of the inventory usage line is satisfied.
