Master PM frequency schedules
You specify a frequency schedule for a master preventive maintenance (PM) record to determine how often work orders are generated from associated PMs.
One or more of the following conditions typically trigger preventive maintenance work:
- Elapsed time since previous work. Such PMs are called time-based PMs.
- Metered usage of equipment. Such PMs are called meter-based PMs.
- A combination of elapsed time and metered usage. For example, you can schedule a PM to trigger work every six months or every 300 hours, whichever comes first.
You enter scheduling information about the Frequency tab in the Master PM application.
You can work with more complex schedules by using lead times, seasonal and extended dates, and by triggering work outside of a PM frequency cycle.
Fixed schedules and floating schedules
To schedule any master or associated PM, determine whether you want to work on a fixed schedule or a floating schedule. On a fixed schedule, you plan work based on the target start date of the previous work. The target start increments by a frequency that you specify. On a fixed schedule, you can create multiple work orders in advance. On a floating schedule, you plan work based on the closure of the previous work. You cannot generate a new work order until the current one is completed on a floating schedule.
- When you create a fixed-schedule PM, the PM work is scheduled based on the value in the Last Start Date field on each associated PM. The Last Start Date field is on the PM tab of the Preventive Maintenance application.
- When you create a floating-schedule PM, the PM work is scheduled based on the value in the Last Completion Date field. The Last Completion Date field is on the PM tab of the Preventive Maintenance application.
