Route options and work order generation

When you define a route, the route option that you specify determines the type, number, and content of work orders that are generated. Work orders are generated when you apply the route to a work order or when you associate the route with a preventive maintenance (PM) record and then generate a work order from the PM.

The following table describes the effect of the route options on the generation of work orders.

Option Generated information
Child Work Orders
  • A child work order is generated for each route stop.
  • Any job plan information is copied to the child work order.
  • If a default safety plan is associated with the job plan, the safety information is copied to the child work order.
Restriction:

Assets and locations on all route stops must belong to the site associated with the route.

Entries in the Work Order's Multi Asset, Location, and CI Table
  • A single work order is generated. It contains a list of the assets and locations for all the route stops.
  • Entries are created in the Multiple Assets, Locations and CIs (Configuration Items) table window in the Work Order Tracking application.
Restriction:

Job plans cannot be associated with route stops.

Work Order tasks

A task work order is generated for each route stop.

Restriction:
  • Assets and locations on all route stops must belong to the site associated with the route.
  • Job plans cannot be associated with route stops.

You associate a route with a preventive maintenance (PM) record by adding the route identifier to the PM, in the PM application. When you generate a work order from the PM, a parent work order is created for the asset, location, or general ledger account on the PM. The system also generates child work orders or task work orders for each route stop, or a single work order that lists the assets and locations for all the route stops, as if you applied the route directly to a work order. You can apply a route only at the lowest level of a PM hierarchy.
