Chart of Accounts

In the Chart of Accounts application, you can set up organization-specific general ledger accounts and resource codes for standard accounting functions. You create accounts and resource codes to correspond with accounts that you use in your external accounting system. You can also set up financial periods, and specify general validation options.

The application stores general ledger accounts at the organization level. Because general ledger accounts cannot be shared across organizations, each organization must have its own chart of accounts system.

To use the Chart of Accounts functions appropriately, specify the following information in other applications:
  • In the Database Configuration application, specify the system-level, default format of general ledger account codes, such as the number and the length of components. For more information, see Database Configuration.
  • In the Organizations application, define tax codes, rates, and dates. For more information, see Organizations.
  • In the Domains application, add company types. For more information, see Domains.
