Preventing GPS spoofing in Maximo Mobile

In Maximo® Mobile 9.1, as a system administrator you can configure Maximo Mobile to ignore mobile devices and emulators that report false GPS location information.

About this task

Users can report false GPS location information from Maximo Mobile back to the server. False GPS location data can be transmitted by using a device emulator, employing GPS location spoofing apps, or attaching an accessory to a mobile device.

Maximo Mobile provides several system properties in Maximo Manage to manage how you handle GPS location data spoofing.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Maximo Manage and open the System Properties application.
  2. Select the appropriate property and set it according to your GPS spoofing policy.
    Option Description
    For Android devices:
    • Set the maximo.mobile.gpsspoofing.android.emulator property to 1 to prevent Maximo Mobile from accepting GPS location data from emulators.
    • Set the maximo.mobile.gpsspoofing.android.mockProvider property to 1 to prevent Maximo Mobile from accepting GPS location data from a mock provider.
    For iOS devices:
    • Set the maximo.mobile.gpsspoofing.ios.simulatedBySoftware property to 1 to prevent Maximo Mobile from accepting GPS location data from apps on an iOS device.
    • Set the maximo.mobile.gpsspoofing.ios.producedByAccessory property to 1 to prevent Maximo Mobile from accepting GPS location data that is simulated through an accessory on an iOS device.
  3. Save your changes.
